iOS

iOS is a Apple's Mobile Operating system, Originally developed for iPhone but later developed for iPod Touch, and iPad. Apple doesn't license iOS installation on Third Party hardware. iOS take's roughly 650MB of the device's storage on installation and is pre-installed on your device when you buy any iOS devices. Applications for iOS can be downloaded from the Apple's App Store. Which contains roughly 500,000 applications. And applications has been downloaded over 15 billion times. iOS comes with default applications like Phone, Facetime, Mail, Safari, camera etc. iOS supports landscape and portrait mode, Multitouch , Tap, Swipe, Pinch and reverse pinch. Internal Accelerometers and gyroscope enable the device to respond when the device shakes. For example the undo feature and shake to shuffle. iOS is derived from Mac OS X. iOS can be downloaded from iTunes when device is connected and the connected device's software is out of date. iTunes downloads and updates the device's software.

iPhone OS was changed to iOS on 2010. And the first iOS was iOS 4. iOS 4 was released along with iPhone which contained major changes like creating folders, Multitasking (only on iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3rd generation, iPad and iPhone 4 itself), Game Center(Not for iPhone 3G and iPod touch first generation) and over 200 new features. iOS 5 is also releasing on 2011. which changes iOS all over again. iOS 5 brings major changes like Notification center, iMessage, NewsStand, iPod application on iPhone and iPad has been split into Music and Videos. Notification can now be viewed by dragging down from the top of the screen.iMessage lets you to communicate between iPhones, iPod touches and iPads. NewsStand resembling folders and iBooks and runs on the homescreen and many more new features. This iOS also brings over 200 new features according to Apple.

With every iOS released Apple is also leaving behind its earlier products for update. For example, iOS 5 is not compatible with iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2nd generation and earlier versions of the iPod Touches and iPhones. iOS 4 wasn't compatible with 1st generation iPhone and iPod Touches. Its not because Apple's forgetting about them but its because the hardware configuration isn't compatible with the new software. The processor, the RAM just wont work with the new software. this is the reason why multitasking isn't enabled on iPhone 3G, iPod touch 2g and earlier versions. Just like you cant install Windows 7 on a computer running Windows 95.

Issues With iOS
Nobody is perfect even iOS has some issues. Although it's the worlds most advanced mobile operating system. No Operating system in this world is Perfect. Every OS has its draw backs. In iOS the most highlighted issue is the flash. iOS doesn't support flash on web browsing. And many iPhone users have reported that iPhone has a poor antenna reception. Though it seems like OS has nothing to do with the antenna system. But it has got many things to do, It's iOS that displays the signal strength. And because of iOS we are able to make phone calls and send/ receive text messages. And many more issues have been reported.

Jailbreaking

Whenever a new software or new technology arrives hackers are the first to get to it. iOS also got affected by these hackers. And they introduced Jailbreak for iOS. Before 2008 jailbreaking was done to install 3rd party apps and sim unlocking. After the release of App. store in -2008, Jailbreaking was done to install 3rd party apps free, which you have to purchase it from the app store. And of course for sim unlocking, Allow theming, multitasking on earlier devices. iOS doesnt allow cracked apps, and change in the look of OS so the need of jailbreaking comes. However it's illegal to jailbreak.
